England and Real Madrid star midfielder Jude Bellingham has undergone successful surgery to address a long-standing shoulder injury.
The 22-year-old is now expected to miss the entirety of Real Madrid’s pre-season and at least the first six weeks of the 2025/26 campaign, including England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
Bellingham has been battling this issue since 2023, when he dislocated his shoulder during a match against Rayo Vallecano. Despite continuing to play with shoulder strapping throughout the last two seasons, he admitted in June that he was “tired of playing with the sling.”
Real Madrid scheduled the surgery after the Club World Cup in the United States, where they were recently eliminated in the semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain.
According to the club, Bellingham will now begin a period of rehabilitation, with a return to training expected later this year.
Real Madrid, now managed by Xabi Alonso, will begin their La Liga campaign at home against Osasuna on August 19.
