Al-Nassr Secures Joao Felix in Reported £43.7m Deal from Chelsea

Joao Felix is on the cusp of joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr after the club reportedly agreed a deal with Chelsea worth up to £43.7 million. The 25-year-old forward has been granted permission to travel to Riyadh to complete his medical examination, paving the way for him to link up with fellow Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo. Al-Nassr’s successful bid saw them overcome interest from Felix’s former club, Benfica.

This transfer allows Chelsea to largely recoup the £45 million they paid Atlético Madrid for Felix last summer. Notably, the Blues had also received a £5 million loan fee when the attacker spent six months on loan at AC Milan starting in January.

Chelsea’s Summer Transfer Strategy Amidst Financial Pressures

Chelsea, who recently won the Club World Cup, have been actively balancing their books this summer. They’ve already sold goalkeepers Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga, along with winger Noni Madueke, generating approximately £130 million. Further player sales are anticipated, with forwards like Raheem Sterling, left-back Ben Chilwell, midfielder Renato Veiga, and striker Armando Broja currently available.

Despite these sales, Chelsea has also been investing heavily in new talent, spending £212 million on signings such as striker Liam Delap, winger Jamie Gittens, and forward Joao Pedro. They also maintain ongoing interest in midfielder Xavi Simons and defender Jorrel Hato.

However, Chelsea’s transfer activity is under close scrutiny from UEFA. The club faces pressure to achieve a “positive transfer balance” this summer, following an initial £27 million fine and conditions placed on them to comply with financial rules. Failure to adhere to these regulations could jeopardize their ability to register new signings for this season’s Champions League.
